GUESS THE ANIMAL!

Highland Cow

Highland Cows are known for their long, shaggy coats. They have two layers of long shaggy fur, the warm undercoat and the more oily overcoat. This helps to keep them cosy in the winter!

Squirrel

Squirrels have four front teeth that grow continuously throughout their lives, at a rate of about six inches (15 cm) per year. This helps their teeth endure the constant gnawing, otherwise they'd quickly run out of teeth.

Ball Python

It's called a Ball Python because when threatened or stressed, it curls into a tight, protective ball, tucking its head safely in the center.

Opossum

An opossum's tail is a prehensile (capable of grasping) appendage used for grasping, balancing, and carrying nesting materials, not for long-term hanging, which is a common myth.

Crested Gecko

Gecko feet are designed to stick to things. They have millions of teeny tiny hairs on their feet called setae. On each of these hairs, there are hundreds of thousands of pads called spatulae that stick to surfaces.

Black Swedish Duck

All ducks have highly waterproof feathers. A duck's feathers are so waterproof that even when the duck dives underwater, the downy underlayer of feathers right next to the skin will stay completely dry.

Raccoon

Raccoons have five toes on their front and back paws. Their front paws look and work like slender human hands.

They use their nimble finger-like toes to hold and manipulate food, as well as a range of objects, including latches, lids, jars, boxes, and doorknobs.

Flemish Giant Rabbit

The Flemish Giant rabbit (also known as the Gentle Giant) is one of the largest breeds of domestic pet rabbits. Adults typically weigh between 15–20 pounds and can reach around 2.5–4 feet in length when they fully stretch out.

Caiman

Caimans are not alligators, but are related.

Caimans have both their nose and eyes on the top of their head, allowing them to see and breathe while the rest of their body remains completely underwater. This is how they’re able to hide in plain sight from their prey and sneak up as they need to.

Dog

Dalmatian puppies are born completely white, they develop their spots as they get older.

Bluey, an Australian cattle dog, is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest dog to ever live. Bluey lived to be 29 years 5 months old and lived from 1910 to 1939.

Horse

Horses have a “stay-apparatus” which is a system of tendons and ligaments that allows the horse to lock their legs in position so they can sleep without falling over.

Foals can walk and run within a few hours after birth. They are mature and mobile from birth. Foals are most vulnerable to predators after birth, so they must be able to flee from danger if necessary

Fox

For an average sleep time of 9 hours per day, foxes burrow in slope-side dens up to 8 ft deep!

Chameleon

Aside from their ability to change color, chameleons have other special characteristics. They have eyes that can move in two different directions at once!

Porcupine

Along with hair, their bodies contain up to 30,000 barbed quills, each 1-4 inches long. Made of keratin, the same substance found in our hair and fingernails, the quills detach easily when touched.

Kunekune Pig

Kunekune pigs are the smallest breed of pig and make great pets!

Screech Owl

When threatened, an Eastern Screech Owl will stretch its body and tighten its feathers in order to look like a branch snag to avoid detection, but will take flight when it knows it has been detected.
